BC Partners changes tack to drive investment plan
Reuters
Managing partner Andrew Newington told the Reuters Hedge Funds and Private Equity Summit that BC Partners whose 2007-vintage deals include London estate agency Foxtons did not commit a large amount of capital to deals two years ago. “We could easily see us equaling those sort of volumes this year in terms of our own equity commitments” Newington said adding he did not expect industry-wide volumes to remain the same. Traditional leveraged buyouts have come to a virtual halt as debt to fund the deals has dried up in the wake of the credit crunch prompting buyout houses to look for other ways to do transactions. Newington said the firm’s focus had shifted in favor of equity-heavy deals that do not require bank financing an approach used to acquire German electrical supplier SGB late last year.
