The Risks and Rewards of Investing in a Bear Market
TIME
artTools –> Benjamin Graham was well prepared for the Crash of 1929. The
now legendary investor had hedged his bets: he would buy preferred
stock in a company and sell short common stock in the same company. When stocks crashed in October 1929, common shares fell much faster than
preferreds, and Graham made a lot of money off short sales. tiiQuigoWriteAd(755778, 1391566, 142, 225, -1); Related Stories.
Freedom Investment Club Sets Record Straight on its Contrarian …

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA, Oct 23, 2008 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX) –
The Freedom Investment Club showcases the positive aspects of its
contrarian investment style, following the August 30th Vancouver Sun
article by David Baines that takes aim at the Vancouver-based Freedom
Investment Club for its alternative strategies. The Freedom
Investment Club has outperformed the majority of world markets for
the past six years and is currently prudently positioned against the
global downturn. CEO of the Freedom Investment Club, Mike Lathigee, says, “I don’t run
with the herd, but I don’t get slaughtered with the herd either!
Still, as an edge-runner I make an easy target. ” Our investment
strategy apparently does not sit well with Mr. Baines, so he calls
our investments risky.

Leave stock market to investing community
Malaysia Star, Malaysia
We are unlikely to experience the excruciating credit crunch in the United States and Europe, but our economy, which relies heavily on exports, will feel the pinch if demands for our goods and services decrease. And many economists expect that to happen. We might also see a more cautious stance taken by foreign investors, and that could impact foreign direct investment into our country. It is good that the Government has come out to say that our economy will not be entirely free from the ill effects of the crisis. It shows that the Government is on the ball, despite some pretty interesting non-economic issues as distractions. In fact, some people were beginning to get worried that politics was too much on the minds of our leaders and politicians, that they were not keeping an eye on what was happening on the economic front. It is also good that Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has assured Malaysians that the country is “not heading towards a recession next year”, and that several measures will be instituted to mitigate the impact of the turmoil in global financial markets.
