About 20 insurers in China have won approval to invest overseas under the QDII program so far. Most of the insurers were allowed to invest up to 5 pct of their assets in Hong Kong stock market. Currently, Chinese insurers’ equity investment activities are confined to nine insurance asset management firms, with other insurance companies investing in equities via these nine. China’s top three insurers, China Life, Ping An and PICC, all have already set up asset management companies in Hong Kong.
